Network Function Virtualization
« Back to Glossary Index
Network function virtualization (NFV) is a way to virtualize network functions (such as firewalls, load balancers, and routers) so that they can be run on standard servers, rather than on specialized hardware. The goal of NFV is to make it easier and more cost-effective to deploy and manage network functions, and to allow for more flexibility in the placement of those functions within the network.
